Andy Standard, known to most as Leroy, and/or Roy was born in New York "City to the late Ruppert and Rosetta Standard, August 13, 1930. Though a descendant of Barbados, he was raised in this great city and educated in the public school system.
A furrier by trade, he was a graduate of , the then, Central Needle Trade School known at FIT. A musician by passion, he studied under the well know bassist, SLAM Strussel and played in a number of jazz groups in and around Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Leroy left this earthly life ina the early morning hours of March 2, 2006 after a life lone battle with discord, discontent, and illness. He was preceded in death by both his parents, sister Ruby, brother Kenneth. Great news; Andy's daughter Venus, contacted me late last year after browsing the internet for a family history search. I was lucky to have her see Andy in my site and contact me. We are looking to get together soon to bring so much more history to this man. Can't wait.
